Viconia DeVir from Baldur's Gate II. Not for power, but for sheer kickass characterisation. I used to chuck her, Aerie and Jaheira in my party just to watch the snark...

Beatrix from FF9? Not a main, but when you actually do get to play her, she does do quite a fair bit of ass-kicking.

Yeah that's her, they spent quite a bit of time in the first disc talking about how she was a totally leet swordswoman that could pwn just about everything... Although yeah, she's a rare type of female character in Final Fantasy. (I still like 8-bit Theatre's version of White Mage though... giant hammers ftw.)

Soooo...Does that mean the newest Godfather game is an RPG?
Nevin pretty much stated what I wanted to say, as well.

Fayt Leingod can not loose a one on one fight. The guy is a deathstar in the body of a human. He can take out entire battleships with his crazy power. No poison mist form or omnislash or even a level 99 mewtwo would help you.
The best weapons and armour would go to:
Look at the mighty biceps... The piercing gaze of a true warrior... the ultimate in fashionable yet functional body armour!
And a final mention to Ashe. The awesome warrior princes who was not only a more masculine character than Vaan, but was also a better choice for main character seeing as the entire story was about her and not that slimy beggar boy who dies more often than Penelo.

You get to create your own family member, choose your own paths, and customize him to your liking.
So it must be an RPG, right?

It sounds like one, but I have the feeling that you're not giving me the whole scoop about the game.

I don't need to, because that's all you've provided for it to fit into the "RPG" mold. Aside from that, it's your standard GTA clone.

You know the RPG industry is going to hell when everyone thinks that some angsty emo kid is the best RPG character ever.

Let's be fair to poor Cloud, who's been taking a lot of flak from everyone, including the FF7 fans. He was a different kind of hero, and I thought it was good that he ended up leading not because he wanted to Save The World, but because he was pushed into it by circumstances. Unfortunately, there are now a lot of angsty emo kids in fantasy - books, games, whatnot (coughDrizztDo'Urdencough) and he's boring. That, and he was such an angstmuffin in Advent Children it totally reduced him to nothing but 'WOE IS ME'.
